Kaya Jones, a former member of the Pussycat Dolls, is exactly in real life as she is on stage. As the bright morning sun streams into the office of her record company in Beijing, she is talking and laughing animatedly with her agents. Dressed in a pair of black, catwalk-ready high heels, leggings and jacket, the tall blonde is easily the focus of attention in the room. She flips through her phone to display the music she is listening to, while shaking her body to a Brazilian song.

China As An Echo Of Japan

Many Americans worry today about China much the way they worried about Japan over a quarter century ago. Then, Harvard scholar Ezra Vogel’s Japan As Number One: Lessons for America, extolled the virtues of a controlled economy in a tightly-wound bureaucracy. Vogel exhorted Americans to copy Japan, whose students recorded higher scores on standardized tests, whose companies exported the larger part of their production with ever better quality, whose economy seemed to be growing exponentially as the economy in the United States was suffering stagflation. BUTTERWORTH, June 24 (Bernama) — The Penang Immigration Department has detained 19 Chinese nationals who abused their social visit pass to work as guest relations officers and offer sexual services.

The ‘China dolls’, aged between 18 and 35, were picked up by a team of enforcement officers in a raid at an entertainment centre in Jalan Burma here last night.

The raid began about 11.30pm.

The department’s deputy director, Abdul Rahman Hassan, said preliminary investigations indicated the women, who arrived in the country on social visit pass, were involved in immoral activities.

“At the time of the raid, some of the women tried to escape by scaling a two-metre high wall while others hid in a trench near the entertainment centre,” he told reporters here yesterday.
