This year the festival will be held Thursday July 4 and July 6-9 (against 11 days last year), and includes even the nuts and bolts of the popular celebration of the summer.
"Summer Celebration has always tried to keep the big event by adding new activities that we believe our customers will enjoy," said Bryon Mazade, Muskegon city manager and chairman of the festival. "This year we added Pirate Island Banana and a derby in the middle, and we have added contests, interviews and other activities in the area together."
Pirate Island is a family theater production presented involving public volunteers 15-20. Mates to join the pirate crew and become stars in a swashbuckling adventure. Performances take place July 1-4.
